We’re Number Eight Tamworth

A local charity providing supportive accommodation for young mums, mums-to-be and young parents in Tamworth. We help them build confidence, independence and stability – so they can create the best possible start for their children and themselves.

Our Mission and Vision

To provide a safe and supportive home where young parents can build confidence, learn independence and create a better future for themselves and their children.

A future where every young parent has the chance to thrive and raise their family with confidence, stability and hope.

Our History

The Beginning of a Safe Haven

Our journey began with a successful bid for a property that would change lives: the former presbytery on St. John Street in Tamworth. Through the hard work of our dedicated staff and volunteers—and the kindness of charitable grants—we transformed that building into Number Eight, a secure and nurturing home for mothers and babies.

Opening our doors on August 1, 2014, we immediately began offering more than just shelter. We created a place where expectant mothers, often facing homelessness, could find a stable foundation. This essential service has since provided significant relief to local councils, offering a crucial alternative to temporary accommodation or the instability of ‘sofa surfing’ for vulnerable families.

Before

Expansion and the Power of Partnership

The demand for a safe haven was immediate and overwhelming, proving the urgent need for our services. Driven by our mission, we moved quickly to find a second location, opening a another home on Albert Road in 2017 (pictured) which also accommodates six mothers and babies. This expansion allowed us to support a wider range of parents, from teens at our original location to slightly more mature mothers at the new site.

By 2019, we took another bold step, creating a small home specifically for couples, ensuring that young fathers could also be a supported part of their child’s early life. These homes have been the stage for incredible success stories, including a resident who went on to university and another who completed her math qualifications. Our commitment is simple: to offer every family the support they need to rewrite their story.
